The Best Things To Do In Wellington, NZ

New ZealandThe Best Things To Do In Wellington

Despite the fact that it is a political capital city, there is far more to do in Wellington. The last few years, it has become an interesting and entertaining travel destination. It is brimming with things to do and see and it is located in a pleasant location with a great outlook. You can find plenty of high quality wildlife attractions, boutique charm, award-winning cuisine, and creative arts in Wellington. With so much to see and do, you might feel overwhelmed at first. This is exactly why we have come up with a handful of the best things to do in Wellington.

The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa

This is Wellington’s premier attraction and doubles as the best cultural and historical manufactured facilities, and one of Oceania’s best museums. There are interactive exhibitions and incredible displays that spread across six floors, with Maori and European exhibits in a spectacular building.

There is so much to enjoy in the museum that you will find it difficult to experience it all in a single day. There are separate categories of natural history, all aspects of New Zealand, and Pacific cultures. The museum is home to more than 200,000 individual items.

Perhaps even better is the fact that most of the museum is available free of charge. Only some seasonal exhibitions require payment. If you were looking to strike an amazing balance between cost-effectiveness and entertainment, you would be foolish to pass up this experience.

Sydney In January And February

Sydney, AustraliaSydney In January And February

When most of the world is freezing cold, Sydney is enjoying summer. With public holidays on New Year’s Day and Australia Day (Jan 26), it gives tourists a chance to experience some of the great things that you can do in the largest city in Australia. The weather conditions reflect the middle of summer, meaning that the temperature can skyrocket very quickly. This means that people will spend these months trying to cool off with aquatic endeavors such as watersports. These are just some of the things that you could do during these two months.

Jet boating on Sydney Harbor

If you want to take in some of the most spectacular sights in Sydney in a refreshing way, having a jet boat ride in the Sydney Harbor is a great way of doing so. This is a fun-filled but yet scenic rush that shows you the area, but still provides you with the thrills of traveling at high speeds.

The Best Things To Do In Brisbane

BrisbaneOne of the reasons that Brisbane is one of the up-and-coming capitals in Australia is because of the balance it manages to strike between urbanization and nature. Because of this balance, it is one of the most enjoyable cities in Australia to visit. There is plenty on offer for both tourists and residents.

Even though Brisbane does not have the international renown that its southern brothers Melbourne and Sydney enjoy, the ideal balance between atmosphere, attractions, and activities is drastically increasing its reputation. In a city that offers that much to do, what are some of the best things that you should focus on?

The Top Tourist Attractions in Switzerland

MatterhornEven though it is renowned for its political neutrality, cheese, chocolate, clocks, and mountains, there are many other interesting aspects about Switzerland. One of the first is that you have three different languages throughout the country, depending on what region you are in at the time. These are some of our favorite tourist attractions in Switzerland.

Matterhorn

If you think about an iconic emblem of the Swiss Alps, the famous Matterhorn has to be it. The mountain gets its name from combining Matte (which means meadow in German) and Horn (which means peak). With a summit of 4,478 meters (14,692 feet) and bordering Italy and Switzerland, it is one of the Alps’ highest peaks. It is also one of the most dangerous, making this a great place to see from the ground up if you are not experienced.

Château de Chillon

The Château de Chillon (Chillon Castle) is located on Lake Geneva’s shores. For more than 400 years, this water castle guarded the land route to St Bernhard Pass and monitored water freight on the lake. You can find 14th century art here, 25 separate buildings with three courtyards, subterranean vaults, and two circular walls. Every year hundreds of thousands of guests tour the castle.

The Top Tourist Attractions in Malta

MdinaDespite the fact that Malta is relatively small, it has a great number of attractions available. Beautiful beaches, charming cities, and spectacular ancient sites, those are only just the beginning. Despite the fact that most tourists are interested in discovering a romantic piece of the past, sampling Mediterranean dishes, or relaxing by the sea, these are just a handful of tourist attractions that you should not miss out on.

Hagar Qim and Mnajdra

On Malta’s south coast, you can find the prehistoric temples of Mnajdra and Hagar Qim. These overlook the islet of Filfla and are perched atop a cliff. The temples can be traced back all the way to 3600-3200 BC. Hagar Qim does not have a uniform arrangement and it is made of a series of interconnected, oval chambers.

Once you have reached Hagar Qim, Mnajdra is about a 700-meter (2,300 foot) walk downhill. This is the far more elaborate selection. You can find three temples side-by-side, each of which has a different orientation and trefoil plan. Not only are there some interesting interactive exhibits, but you will find stunning views of the ocean as well.

Traveler’s Checks In Europe

EuropeWe still get this questions from our readers from time to time “Do people still use traveler’s checks at all?” This is a good question, because most people assume that ATM access and credit cards have made it unnecessary to have traveler’s checks anymore. Most ATMs do have better conversion rates than exchange counters or banks (or so some would have you believe). You usually do not have to pay an exorbitant amount just for the privilege of not having to carry cash.

The fact is that when talking about reality, using an ATM can be almost as expensive as using traveler’s checks. The reason behind this are the conversion fees that a large number of ATMs charge. Add the transaction fees to that (which may measure upwards of 5 percent for each withdrawal) and you might see where withdrawing money from an ATM is not always the logical choice.

So if we take that into consideration, the real benefit that an ATM offers is convenience. You do not have to stand at an exchange window, stand in line, you simply insert your card, you remember your pin number, and you take your money. However, there are times where having traveler’s checks does make sense. These are just a handful of examples:

Tax-Free Shopping in Europe

TAX FREE FOR TOURISTS When you are shopping across Europe, the VAT (which stands for value-added tax) might be as high as 25 percent. This is not unlike a sales tax, except it is not added at the cash register but rather built into the price that you pay. If you live outside of the European Union and you are just in Europe for vacation, chances are that you are eligible to claim a VAT refund.

Ways that you can apply for a refund

  • Use the store’s refund affiliate – If you want the easiest and most efficient way of getting your refund, this would be it. Look in the store window and seek out “Premier Tax Free” or “Tax Free Shopping” signs. These stores will give you a tax-free shopping check. Once you are getting ready to leave the European Union, you present this check to customs. You can then get an immediate refund at the border kiosk or refund service’s airport desk. There may even be a number of different ways that you can have this refund processed.

The Best Shops And Markets In Berlin

Welcome To BerlinIf you want to experience some of the best shopping options in Berlin, from the Berlin’s farmer’s markets and their German delicacies to the vintage frills and luxury wares, we have a few suggestions where you should start looking. Shopping in Berlin is a mixture of a number of different elements, these include the local, the traditional, and even some craft and originality.

Unlike many other cities that we have discussed before, there is no distinctive shopping center to Berlin. This means that the best thing you can do is just to start walking. You should expect to find some of the finer things in the least expected places. Because it has a massive DJ population and relatively cheap overheads, you should also expect a thriving record shop scene in Berlin.

If you go west, on Kurfürstendamm, you can find some of the more conventional shopping options. These include the flagship Uniqlo and an Apple store that both opened in 2014. The Friedrichstrasse in the east offers a similarly upmarket selection. Even though Berlin has become increasingly popular, you should be aware that you are probably not going to do much shopping on a Sunday. This might seem particularly strange to people who have become accustomed to major cities being open seven days a week, but local laws do not permit it.

Best Places To Visit In Australia

RottnestConsidering that Australia is such a massive country, chances are that you will be unable to see everything for yourself the first time (or even the second time) that you visit there. You can however consider what some of the best places are, and what the highlights might be. These are just a few of our favorite locales that we believe are certainly worth the visit.

Rottnest Island, WA

A few of the highlights here include whale watching, swimming and diving, snorkeling,  pristine sands, easy access from Perth, striking water colors, and unique wildlife. The beautiful Rottnest Island is just 19 kilometers off the Western Australian mainland. Locally known as “Rotto,” it is home to some of the most unique animals in Australia, secluded bays, and spectacular white sandy beaches.

What really makes Rottnest special is the fact that this natural wonder is only 30 minutes from the coast. You would assume that you would be in a much more isolated locale if you did not just depart from the mainland a half hour ago. In terms of physical beauty, it is often compared to one of the many Greek Islands.

However, there is more here than just amazing physical beauty, you are able to experience some amazing swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and surfing here. Especially considering how close it is to Perth – a major suburban center – it really shows just how carefully preserved Rottnest truly is.
